Thank you so much for your continued support of WVLO Musical Theatre. The California Department of Health and Safety released updated guidelines that state the following:
All of these categories describe WVLO audiences in size, proximity and age. After serious consideration, WVLO has decided to eliminate any potential risk to our valued patrons, performers, orchestra, crew and volunteers and cancel performances of “Once Upon a Mattress” for next three weekends: March 14, 15, 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29.
Ever optimistic, we are holding out hope that we will be able to stage our show the weekend of April 3-4 and we are exploring the possibility of adding performances. This depends entirely on the status of the coronavirus epidemic.
Cancelling these performances is the right and safe thing to do - it is also heartbreaking. In a time of anxiety, this show was the ideal antidote -- full of whimsy, humor and joy. Several performances were already sold out! The cast and crew worked hard to make this show wonderful and wanted very much to share this delightful experience with audiences, but we must prioritize public health. We all have to do what we can to slow the spread of this disease.
We will be contacting patrons with options for refund or donation. We have frozen ticket sales on our website. Please be patient with our volunteers as we manage this ever-changing situation with limited staff.
Please consider donating your tickets back to WVLO as a tax-deductible donation. We'll also gladly exchange tickets for a future WVLO performance. Please call our box office at 408-268-3777 (24x7 voicemail).
Our heartfelt apologies go out to all of you. Thank you and stay healthy!
WVLO Musical Theatre is thrilled to announce a vibrant lineup of shows for our 2020-2021 season, comprised of a South Bay Area premiere of a recent Broadway sensation, a wildly popular contemporary musical comedy, and a quintessential Broadway classic.
Our fall production is the magical Rodgers & Hammerstein classic “Cinderella.” This beloved Broadway version features the ever-popular songs "In My Own Little Corner," "Ten Minutes Ago," "Stepsister's Lament," “A Lovely Night” and all of the other Rodgers & Hammerstein creations. This year is the 70th anniversary of the Disney animated movie and the 50th anniversary of the musical. The prince is giving a ball and you are all invited (Fairy Godmother included)!
In the spring, WVLO will present the popular musical comedy “The Addams Family,” fueled by the music and lyrics of award-winning composer Andrew Lippa. This hilariously ghoulish musical features songs that are macabre and amusing including "When You're an Addams," “Pulled,” "One Normal Night," "Crazier Than You" and many more.
Wrapping up next season is a South Bay Area premiere of the Broadway sensation “Something Rotten!” Packed with humor and dancing, this original musical comedy was written by John O'Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick, with music and lyrics by Karey and Wayne Kirkpatrick. Set in 1595, the story sets to music the tale of two brothers who “invent” the very first musical while struggling to compete with their ever popular contemporary William Shakespeare. “Something Rotten!” opened on Broadway in 2015, and was nominated for ten Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

Returning to this theater is a musical comedy based on Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Princess and the Pea”, a fairy tale with wit, sophistication and human feeling.
Set in the fifteenth century and carried on a wave of wonderful songs, romantic and melodic, this rollicking spin on the familiar classic of royal courtship and comeuppance introduced a new Broadway star by the name of Carol Burnett when it opened in 1959.
In 1965, it was shown on TV as a special and a new production of this delightful musical opened on Broadway in December, 1996, starring Sarah Jessica Parker.
It boasts a good score and is a show for the entire family. Memorable songs include “Shy”, “In A Little While”, “Happily Ever After”, “Sensitivity” and “Normandy”.
|Music and Lyrics:||Laurence O’Keefe and Neil Benjamin|
|Dates:||Jun 27-Jul 25,2020|
Completing our season is a South Bay Premiere, a fun and upbeat musical based on the novel “Legally Blonde” by Amanda Brown and the 2001 film of the same name.
It tells the story of Elle Woods, a sorority girl who enrolls at Harvard Law School to win back her ex-boyfriend, Warner, and discovers how her knowledge of law can help others.
The musical premiered in pre-Broadway tryouts in San Francisco in 2007 before moving to Broadway.
It received 7 Tony nominations and ten Drama Desk nominations. It has since toured throughout the USA, London and other countries. The score includes “Omigod You Guys”, “What You Want”, “Positive”, “Delta Nu Nu Nu”, “Find My Way” and the title song.
