In April 2012, I traveled to New York with my sister for a quick Broadway trip. There were so many shows to choose from, but when I heard that Nice Work If You Can Get It was opening the week we were going to be there, my decision was made. As a huge fan of George and Ira Gershwin and the 1920's era, I knew that I could not miss it. Not only was Matthew Broderick starring, but I was excited to see that the script was written by the Tony Award winner (Memphis), Don DiPietro.
I was not disappointed when the curtain went up. The entire production was beautifully staged, acted, and choreographed. Although the songs were older cherished favorites, the script was fresh and funny. As I left the Imperial Theatre that night, I knew that our WVLO audiences would enjoy this show. As soon as it became available, our WVLO Board was committed to making Nice Work If You Can Get It a part of our current season.
From the uproarious laughter at our first cast reading of the script through every vocal and dance rehearsal, I realized how fortunate I am to work with this incredible staff, cast, crew and orchestra.
